\n\t\t\tHistory of \u201cSmokie\u201d and \u201cSpirit of Smokie\u201d\t\t<\/h3>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>[vc_empty_space height=”23px”][vc_column_text]Originating in the early sixties in the City of Bradford, England, school friends Ron Kelly, Chris Norman, Alan Silson and Terry Uttley formed their first line up. After several recording contracts and name changes the name \u201cSmokie\u201d was decided upon. This signalled a period of worldwide success for the band (with Pete Spencer replacing Ron Kelly on drums) whose records have today sold in excess of 30 million.<\/p>\n

In 1986 the band played their final concert and Chris Norman embarked on a successful solo career. This paved the way for a new look \u201cSmokie\u201d featuring two original members. They were joined by Dean\u2019s father, lead singer Alan Barton. Alan\u2019s voice, energy and drive for success re-established the name of \u201cSmokie\u201d as a worldwide touring and recording band.<\/p>\n

Sadly, tragedy struck in March 1995 with the death of Alan Barton following a motorway accident in Colonge – Germany.<\/p>\n

1996 brought the third incarnation of \u2018Smokie\u2019 with remaining original member Terry Uttley. Alan Silson had departed, to later form his own band with \u2018Spirit of Smokie\u2019 members including fellow original Ron Kelly, Andy Whelan and Graham Kearns.<\/p>\n

In March 2008 a Memorial Concert was held for Alan Barton, fronted by his son Dean Barton and just like that \u201cSpirit of Smokie\u201d was born.<\/p>\n

Dean\u2019s undeniable \u201cSmokie\u201d voice and on-stage charisma completed what is now an established world class band.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column offset=”vc_col-lg-4 vc_col-md-4″]
